Trauma & Bereavement Therapy

Trauma and bereavement can change how you see yourself, other people and the world around you. Whether your experience was sudden, prolonged, recent or rooted in the past, its impact can continue to affect your emotions, relationships, body and sense of safety.

I provide compassionate, trauma-informed therapy in Killingworth and Whitley Bay, supporting clients across Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland and the wider North East, as well as online throughout the UK.

When trauma and grief feel difficult to carry

Trauma is not always about one single event. It can also come from repeated experiences where you felt unsafe, powerless, unseen or overwhelmed. Bereavement can also become traumatic when the loss was sudden, complex, violent, life-changing or connected to difficult circumstances.

You may be struggling with anxiety, emotional overwhelm, numbness, guilt, anger, intrusive memories, sleep difficulties, low self-worth or feeling constantly on edge. You may also feel pressure to keep functioning, even when inside you feel far from okay.

Whatever your experience, your response makes sense in the context of what you have been through. Therapy offers space to begin working through this safely.

Areas of support

This area of therapy includes support for:

  • Trauma and post-traumatic stress
  • Childhood trauma and emotional neglect
  • Complex and traumatic bereavement
  • Sudden, unexpected or life-changing loss
  • Life-threatening and traumatic events
  • Abuse and relational harm
  • Grief linked to pregnancy, baby loss or difficult reproductive experiences
  • Trauma experienced by veterans and blue light services

You may know exactly what you want to work through, or you may simply know that something from the past is still affecting you. Both are welcome starting points.

How trauma and bereavement therapy can help

Trauma-informed therapy provides a confidential and non-judgemental space where you can explore your experiences at a pace that feels right for you.

Together, we can work to help you make sense of what has happened, reduce emotional distress and reclaim your life. Therapy can also support you to recognise patterns, improve emotional regulation, rebuild trust in yourself and regain a greater sense of safety, steadiness and control.

The aim is not simply to cope better. It is to support deeper healing, so the past no longer feels as though it is holding so much power over your present.

Supporting high-achieving individuals

Many of my clients are high-achieving individuals who appear capable and composed on the outside while carrying the weight of unresolved trauma or grief internally.

You may be driven, resilient and used to managing things alone, yet struggle with anxiety, perfectionism, emotional exhaustion or a sense that you can never fully switch off.

Therapy offers space to pause, reflect and begin healing beneath the surface.
